It’s Week 6 and we are still being surprised on a weekly basis by several National Football League who come out of nowhere to put up big fantasy numbers.
Last week it was Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Chase Claypool, who entered his game with 24 fantasy points but managed to haul in four touchdown passes from Ben Roethlisberger against the Philadelphia Eagles. Some of us might have had a full-season fantasy lineup emergency created by the COVID-19 situation and waived Claypool. No further comment necessary.
One way to end up in the big money for a given week is by finding low-priced diamonds in the rough at positions in the defense, tight end and flex spots. These players allow you to stack your lineup in other spots with higher-priced known quantities who are almost guaranteed to perform at a high level but might not be widely owned because of their high salaries. That’s why we try to help you find the high-value players who are likely to out-perform their salaries and allow you to afford some of the top talent.
Looking back at last week, if you had used our top-value picks you could have had the fourth- and sixth-best quarterbacks, the top-two running backs and the fourth-sixth and 10th-ranked running backs. We provide a number of value selections at each position to give you the flexibility to use several players in different lineups and surround them with the higher-priced players who have the best matchups. Diversification can help you put together a winning lineup if one of your top players lays an egg.
We also provide super-value options who are likely to outperform their salaries by a wide margin, providing you with even more money to stack other positions. One of our super-value picks recorded 20.9 points last week.
Another strategy is to fill your entire lineup with value players who allow you to stay near the average salary needed to fill your team at each position and still have plenty of upside. If you had taken that approach with our top-value selections from Week 5, it would have been possible to score close to 200 points, which easily would have had you in the money in almost any type of format.
This week we are going to provide you with a little more information instead of just our rankings. We are suggesting actual optimal lineups that you can create using our value picks in different ways. This also will give you some insight into our thought process when we pick our teams. We will do this both for Draft Kings and FanDuel, providing an optimal lineup for each using just value players and also using super-value players in some spots so that you can stack other positions.
