You know how the old saying goes, “If it looks to be good to be true, it probably is.” Well, those are great words of advice for DFS fantasy football players as we enter Week 7 of the 2020 National Football league season.
Thanks to injuries and COVID-list designations there are some amazing bargains out there this week as players who are normally backups move into lineups and figure to get plenty of snaps and touches against favorable matchups. Just be careful before you jump all in on a bargain-basement starter who you think is going to win you a six-figure contest. If you see the value and a player looks that good, it’s a pretty good bet that all the other serious players do as well – and so do many of the not-so-serious players. So, for a player like Gio Bernard and another potential starter like Jamaal Williams, it certainly makes sense to have them in some of your lineups. If they put up an average day and you can spend more somewhere else on someone who goes off, life is good. And if they have a huge outing and you are able to stack other parts of your lineup, life is great.
But, and there’s always a chance of this happening, what if they put up only a few points? What if they end up splitting snaps, targets or touches with another backup? What if they get off to a slow start and head back to the bench?
A low score from one of these players doesn’t absolutely kill you if a lot of other people have drafted the same guy, but it still puts the pressure on your other players to live up to – or greatly exceed – expectations since in most contests you have to finish among the top 20 percent to have a chance of winning money.
By all means take a hard look at the players mentioned above, as well as underpriced guys like Terry McLaurin, Antonio Gibson, Chase Claypool and Tyreek Hill. But make sure that you do your homework and use our recommendations below to ensure that you have a solid lineup no matter how your highly owned bargain player performs.
