StatLogic Sports Daily Hoops Hustle: NCAA CBB Betting Edges & Parlay Options for 2/7

It's a small Friday night college hoops slate, and the chaos of the NBA trade deadline has us taking a few days off from any professional basketball hoops picks, so we hope to get ahead of what is another mammoth Saturday schedule of college basketball and also to work on preparing some Super Bowl content.

Tonight is a strange night in college hoops, but a good one despite the small number of games.

We have a huge BIG EAST matchup between St. John's and UConn, and two big ones in the Atlantic 10 as St. Louis and St. Joe's tangle while VCU travels to Dayton for a showdown at the top of the leaderboard in that league. There is a traditional bitter rivalry game between Princeton and Penn in the Ivy League, and USC also travels to Purdue as a big underdog in what should be at least a decent game to watch as you never really know what you'll get from USC.

So, five of the seven games are definitely worth watching, and they also bring with them some point spreads that don't seem to make a lot of sense and deserve a little more attention that usual.

We would really like USC +14 at Purdue if Desmond Claude plays, otherwise we'd leave it alone. While anything can happen in a BIG EAST showdown between high-profile teams and coaches, given UConn's cloudy health situation and the grit that St. John's shows every night, at +4 the edge goes to the Johnnies on the road in a game that should go down to the wire.

An improved St. Louis team also gets an edge as a +6.5 road underdog in Philadelphia to face a St. Joseph's team that has had an uneven season. They've looked great. They've looked awful. The numbers just say that the Billikens can keep this one close. We also give the edge on the road to a Utah State team that is a 12.5-point favorite and would rather play its way into the NCAA Tournament than rely on winning the conference championship at a bad Fresno State team that is playing out the string.

We are very confident that Princeton will beat a Penn team having a down year that has been better lately. The Tigers are good enough to win by 20, but both teams have been extremely volatile. They are just too talented for Penn, but we see this one as only a potential money line parlay play tonight.

When you read through today's information, keep in mind that we are extremely selective with our recommended picks as they need to have at least a 60-percent win probability or better according to our proprietary algorithm and also must pass through that stringent set of parameters that we consider for each matchup. In our daily posts you will find our recommended bets as well as games that don't quite make the cut to be recommended and which might make solid parlay options and other games where we believe there are edges favoring one side.

Parlays always will have a lower win probability than straight bets, but there are times that a parlay will meet our requirements and be recommended. We realize that many sports bettors prefer not to bet very short odds that approach and exceed -200, so in our goal to provide as much information and help as many people as possible, we do provide potential parlay options that are strong bets that don't quite make the cut for us as well as other games that have betting edges but also don't quite meet our high standards to be recommended picks.

Our college basketball betting edges have performed well, hovering between 56.5 and 58 percent over a large sample size since early November, and our parlay options have been extremely successful as you can see below.

While we usually don't recommend parlays - mainly because it decreases the win probability while increasing the potential payout - for those who aren't interested in laying the juice, combining two of our money line recommended picks or pairing one of our recommended picks with other picks we think have betting edges often can be very strong plays as well. They just may not be strong enough to meet the criteria for us to recommend them, though, and are "bet at your own risk" like the other games we post that have betting edges.

Our potential money line parlay games from Jan. 4-6 were 19-1 ... they have gone 186-71 (72.4%) since Jan. 4 and were 18-2 Jan. 14-15. They were 14-1 overall Feb. 4-5 (college hoops went 12-0 those two days).
